Getting Started as an Advertiser
Learn the basics of finding a screen and booking your first ad
Getting Started
5 min
We're growing the network. Right now every booking is free and no payment is taken: advertisers are charged nothing and nothing is paid out. Every screen that joins makes the network more valuable for everyone on it, and meanwhile a screen owner can advertise their own business free on the other screens. Paid ad time opens once the network reaches 50 screens and payments are set up. What this article says about paying and getting paid describes how paid bookings work from then.
Welcome to RedSquare! Here's everything you need to know to put your first ad on a screen.
Step 1: Find a Screen
- Open Discover (
/discover) and search by city, or browse the map. The nearest screens come first. - Narrow the list by venue type, and by the most you want to pay per 10-second play.
- Open a screen to see its price, opening hours, the formats it plays and its house rules. Signed in, you can Message the owner before you book.
- Press Book this screen.
Step 2: Add Your Ad
- Choose what your ad is for — its category. The screen's house rules are checked against it.
- Upload your file: an image (JPEG or PNG), an animated GIF, or a video (MP4 or WebM), up to 100 MB.
- For an image, choose how long it stays on screen each play — 20 seconds unless you change it, up to the screen's limit. A video or an animated GIF plays for its own length.
- Every ad is reviewed before it can play. The answer appears on the page, and you continue once your ad is approved.
Step 3: Schedule and Pay
- Pick Standard — a number of plays in the hours you choose, taking turns with other ads — or Premium, an exclusive window where only your ad plays.
- Pick the days and hours. Each hour shows how full it already is.
- On Review & pay, check the total, add a promo code if you have one, and pay — Pay with PayPal where the screen's owner takes PayPal, or Pay by card on Stripe's secure checkout page (a free screen has nothing to pay).
- You land on your campaign's page, which shows when your ad plays and, afterwards, what ran.
Tips for Success
- Best times: lunch (11am-2pm) and early evening (5pm-7pm) are busy at many venues — but every venue is different, so ask the owner which hours are busiest
- Content quality: High-contrast images with large text work best on digital screens
- Length: you pay for every 10 seconds a play lasts, so a short, clear ad goes further
