Payment and Billing Help
How paying and getting paid work, and how to fix common payment issues
We're growing the network. Right now every booking is free and no payment is taken: advertisers are charged nothing and nothing is paid out. Every screen that joins makes the network more valuable for everyone on it, and meanwhile a screen owner can advertise their own business free on the other screens. Paid ad time opens once the network reaches 50 screens and payments are set up. What this article says about paying and getting paid describes how paid bookings work from then.
Everything you need to know about payments, billing, and resolving common issues.
For Advertisers
Making Payments
- You pay on the last step of booking, Review & pay — or at
/my-bookings/pendingfor bookings a schedule made for you. - PayPal comes first. Where the screen's owner takes PayPal, the main button is Pay with PayPal: you approve the payment on PayPal's site, and PayPal brings you back to RedSquare, which confirms it. Where the owner also takes cards, Pay by card is the second button; where they take cards only, it's the one button.
- Pay by card opens Stripe's secure checkout page. It takes cards, and any other way to pay that Stripe's page offers you.
- You pay in the screen's own currency. PayPal takes US dollars, euros and pounds. A screen priced in another currency is paid by card where its owner takes cards; where they don't, the page says it can't be paid yet, and nothing is charged.
- The total shows the screen time, any promo code, and the processing line for the way you pay — PayPal processing with PayPal, card processing by card. The two differ: $5.00 of screen time is $5.69 with PayPal and $5.46 by card. Where both buttons show, the page gives both totals.
- If the screen's owner hasn't set up a way to be paid yet, the page says so and shows no pay button. Nothing is charged.
- RedSquare never sees or stores your card number or your PayPal login.
Billing Cycle
- Pay before it plays: every booking is paid for when you book it.
- Scheduled campaigns: a schedule you set up at
/playlistsbooks screens for you, but nothing is charged automatically. Each booking waits at/my-bookings/pendinguntil you pay for it, and an unpaid one is cancelled once its hour has passed. - Receipts: every paid booking has a Receipt (PDF) on its campaign page, and you get a receipt email when it's paid.
Refund Policy
- Before it first plays: cancel from the campaign page and you get back everything you paid, processing included. The same goes if the venue declines your ad, or doesn't approve it within 24 hours.
- Once it has started: it can't be cancelled, but any plays that don't run are refunded automatically when the booking ends — their share of the screen-time price.
- Hours the venue gives back: if the venue releases hours you booked, those hours are refunded. If it does so before your ad has first played, your processing fee comes back too, in full.
- If the venue removes the screen: every booking on it that hasn't finished is cancelled and you get back everything you paid that hasn't already been refunded, processing included, and you're told.
- The way you paid: every refund goes back the way you paid — to your PayPal account for a PayPal payment, to your card for a card payment.
- If our team cancels it: you get back everything you paid that hasn't already been refunded, processing included — even if it has started playing.
- Processing time: refunds are sent automatically. A card refund typically appears within 5-10 business days. A PayPal refund shows in your PayPal account once it's sent, and PayPal returns it the way the payment was funded — your PayPal balance, or the card or bank account PayPal charged, which can take a few business days more.
For Screen Owners
Getting Paid
- Straight to you: when an advertiser pays, the money goes to the payout account you connected — PayPal or Stripe — at that moment. RedSquare never holds it.
- Setup required: connect a payout account on the Get paid step (
/onboard?step=payouts), which shows the options open right now. Your payout provider checks your identity and bank details. - Platform fee: RedSquare keeps 20% of the screen-time price and you keep 80%. Processing — PayPal's or the card's — is paid by the advertiser, not taken from your 80%.
- Your payout accounts: your earnings page (
/my-screens/earnings) lists them under Payouts — PayPal first, then Stripe — with whether each can pay you, where its money goes, and a link to open it. RedSquare can't see your balance in either; open the account to see it. - No minimum: there's no threshold to reach and no payout to request.
Earnings Timeline
- Booking paid: your 80% lands in your payout account.
- To your bank: a PayPal payment is in your PayPal balance, and you move it to your bank from PayPal; Stripe sends a card payment to your bank on its payout schedule.
- Refunds later: if plays are missed, or you decline a booking or give hours back, the refund comes out of that balance.
Your earnings page (/my-screens/earnings) shows your share by week, month, screen and booking, and every Monday you get an email with last week's.
Common Issues & Solutions
Payment Declined
With PayPal: if you leave PayPal without approving, you come back to RedSquare with nothing charged and can try again. If PayPal declines, follow what PayPal's page asks for, or use Pay by card where the screen offers it.
By card — possible causes:
- Insufficient funds
- Expired card
- Bank security block
- International transaction block
Solutions:
- Try a different card
- Contact your bank to authorize the transaction
- Check card details for typos or expiration
- Ensure your card supports online payments
Your ad and schedule are kept on your device for 24 hours, so you can come back to Review & pay and try again.
Missing Payment
For Screen Owners:
- Confirm the booking was paid — paid bookings are listed on your earnings page (
/my-screens/earnings) - Check Payouts on the same page: it shows which payout account can pay you, and opens it
- In that account (PayPal or Stripe), check it has nothing outstanding and your bank details are current and valid
- A PayPal payment stays in your PayPal balance until you move it to your bank; a Stripe payout takes a few business days to reach your bank
